How do I change the principal user from the garage that sold the car to my wife and then to me as an addtitional user.
Bill.

No. I want to be able to track the car should the worst happen and I THINK this is what is necessary.

You need to give us more of a clue as the where this 'Principal User' is used if not for insurance and where/when it appears.

Does this mean in VW Connect, and the 'Welcome' name which sometimes appears on the infotainment and digital cockpit screens ?

The new models with MIB3 have this setting of 'principal user' (of the car) it's all to do with the VW software. I would think it must be somewhere in the manual for the media unit???

P.S. I haven't a clue sorry where to change this, only know several people on the forums asked about it when these new head units came out.

Bill.

I found some info in the Owners manual that covers this. It is called the 'Primary user' by VW and the composite screen shot covers the parts which I think will help. If you need more info, check the Owner's Manual section covering Data transfer/User administration.

I found another bit in the Owner's Manual under [Data transfer -> Volkswagen We Connect -> Proof of ownership and identity] giving some more info ...

I would assume that if you want your wife to be the Primary User, then you would start by first of all personalising your 2 keys eg. Hers and His (substitute names if you like)
See [Driver information -> Infotainment system controls and displays -> Personalisation].

Then unlock the car using your wife's key and follow the procedure in the screen shot below, using your wife's key as the first key and yours as the second (I assume 'Press the open button on the first vehicle key' refers to the 'Unlock' button on the key fob).
